Mainline Instruments achieves the gold standard in information security management.

As part of its commitment to information security management, optometry and ophthalmology supplier Mainline Instruments has been awarded ISO 27001:2022 certification after completing a comprehensive 12 month program, audited by the British Standards Institution (BSI), the national standards body of the United Kingdom.

The certificate was handed to Jack Hawkins, Business Development Director at Mainline Instruments, by BSI’s UK&I Technical Delivery Manager for Digital Trust, Bob Gettings.

With less than 20% of enterprise organisations in the UK holding the internationally recognised security standard, Mainline Instruments joins a handful of companies to be certified against the latest 2022 criteria.

Bob Gettings said:

“The ISO 27001:2022 certification for Mainline Instruments’ Information Security Management System (ISMS) has given Mainline Instruments a competitive advantage within its industry, as well as joining the international group of organisations that have these certifications.

“A company must demonstrate a continuous commitment to managing sensitive information and assessing security risks to achieve certification under these standards. By meeting the needs of their customers, Mainline Instruments clearly demonstrates that they are operating at this level.”

“Our ISO certifications at BSI demonstrate Mainline Instruments’ commitment to implementing global best practices that ensure effectiveness, efficiency, confidentiality and integrity in our day-to-day operations. The company is embarking on a new journey.”

As a rapidly growing organisation, customer data is handled daily as part of its technology-infused service model. Achieving ISO certification ensures Mainline Instruments goes above regulatory minimums to ensure the highest standards of security and assurance that its data is handled in a secure manner. This is in light of increasing regulatory requirements such as GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and NIS (Network and Information Systems) regulations.

Jack Hawkins spoke about certifications:

“The ISO 27001 certification represents our unwavering commitment to developing a world-class customer-oriented service culture and high information security standards.

ISO 27001 certification aligns with our values of security and excellence. We believe it will increase the confidence of our partners and clients which include both the NHS and the wider optometric industry. As part of our commitment to our customers, Mainline Instruments will continue to ensure our products and systems are in line with our customers’ needs.”

The process was anchored by a management systems consulting organisation, Temple Quality Management Systems Limited. Its Management Systems Support Consultant, Vesselin Nikolov helped with the planning, establishment and implementation of the Information Security Management System.

Vesselin Nikolov said:

“Mainline Instruments customers can be assured that their sensitive information will be secure, and confident that it will be protected as we continue to grow our technology capabilities. This is an excellent recognition for the dedicated work everyone has put in over the last 12 months. Although the journey is continual, we are working at a high level of security process maturity, and are proud that the company is one of the leaders in this space.”

Achieving the leading standard for information security management systems (ISMS) recognises Mainline Instruments’ high security protocols. BSI’s independent, expert assessment highlights that its information networks, cloud infrastructure, and systems are effectively managed in line with international best practices.

The ISO 27001:2022 certification also highlights the company’s dedication to securing physical data stored within its estate.

Obtaining the ISO certification supports Mainline Instruments in its growth trajectory, future-proofing its services and protecting its expanding customer portfolio data.
