Investing in the next generation: Supporting Betsy’s life-changing Trip to Cambodia
At Temple Management Training, we believe that true leadership and personal growth often happen far beyond the classroom or the office.
It’s about challenging yourself, engaging with the world, and making a tangible difference in the lives of others.
That's why we were incredibly proud to sponsor sixteen-year-old Betsy Lewis from Heathfield Community College on a truly life-changing expedition to Cambodia this summer.
Over four weeks, Betsy and her schoolmates embarked on a journey with Camps International, an organisation dedicated to providing sustainable and authentic travel experiences.
Their mission was twofold: to contribute to community projects and to embark on a journey of personal discovery.
Making a Tangible Difference
The team's primary focus was volunteering in remote villages, where they rolled up their sleeves to help build essential infrastructure like schools, toilets, and wells. This hands-on work directly supports local economies and improves the quality of life for families in the community.
But the trip was also a test of resilience. Alongside their project work, the students undertook a demanding four-day trek through the mountains, staying in monasteries and camps and experiencing the extremities of the Cambodian climate.
Building Bridges and Creating Memories
While the physical work was challenging, Betsy told us that her most memorable moments came from the human connections she made.
“One of my most memorable moments was spending time in the village schools, not only to help repair them but also to get to know the children,” Betsy shared. “It was so meaningful to play games with them, learn each other’s languages, exchange bracelets, and learn about their daily life and rich culture.”
These moments of shared laughter and cultural exchange are where true understanding begins, breaking down barriers and creating memories that last a lifetime.
An Unforgettable Adventure
From the bustling cities of Siem Reap and Phnom Penh to the serene mountain monasteries, the experience left a profound impact.
“This unforgettable experience taught me so much and left me with a deep sense of environmental and cultural awareness, and admiration for these communities that work so tirelessly,” Betsy reflected. “I had the most amazing time and met some phenomenal people—it was the best adventure.”
Hearing about Betsy’s journey reaffirms our commitment to supporting young people who are passionate about making a positive impact. The teamwork, resilience, and cultural awareness she developed are the very qualities that build strong future leaders.
We are incredibly proud of what Betsy and her team accomplished and can't wait to see what this amazing young leader does next.
Congratulations, Betsy, on the adventure of a lifetime!
